Purpose of Award: The purpose of the Mayor's Award for Youth Volunteer Service is to honor outstanding youth who are making valuable contributions to the community through volunteer service in a wide variety of categories, such as health, recreation, arts, environment, education, public safety, civic service or other human services.
Qualifications for Award: The volunteer should either be a resident of Kettering, age 12 through 18*, or the volunteer service should be performed in Kettering. The volunteer activity can be in a structured setting or on an informal basis. Groups are eligible as well. Consideration given to: service given above and beyond the job asked of them, impact to the community and service rendered for longevity.
Nomination process: Tell the story! Describe the nominee’s outstanding commitment to volunteerism to their community and dedication to the organization they served. Describe accomplishments and how their service has helped meet needs in their community. If possible, please include measurables (numbers or quantities) that explain the nominee’s impact. The committee’s decisions are based solely on the information contained in the nomination and therefore it is vital to make sure that the information put together gives the best chance of success.
*The volunteer must still be in high school to qualify for the youth award even if the participant is over the age of 18. If the volunteer is over 18 years old and graduated from high school, they can qualify for the Adult Mayor's Award.
