The City of Kettering is pleased to announce that the Ohio Department of Transportation (ODOT) has selected the Galewood Street Bridge Rehabilitation project for funding through its Municipal Bridge Program. This critical infrastructure project will receive substantial federal support, covering 95% of eligible costs.
ODOT has committed up to $1,034,694 in federal funds for the project, which will be distributed across multiple phases:
- $56,000 for preliminary engineering and environmental studies (2026)
- $40,000 for detailed design work (2026)
- $938,694 for construction and inspection (2028)
“This funding represents a significant investment in Kettering’s infrastructure,” said Assistant City Manager/Engineering Director Steve Bergstresser. “The Galewood Street Bridge is an important neighborhood connection for our community, and this rehabilitation project will ensure its continued safety and reliability for years to come.”
The increased funding rate of 95% through ODOT’s Toll Revenue Credit program, up from the typical 80%, allows the City to maximize the impact of local infrastructure dollars while maintaining essential transportation routes.
Construction is scheduled to begin in 2028. Updates on the project timeline and any traffic impacts will be shared as the project progresses.
